The Livelihoods team was represented at the 2011 Africa Carbon Forum in Marrakech in early July. The Forum is a trade fair and knowledge sharing platform for carbon investments in Africa. It is a place to discuss latest development on the carbon market and how the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) can be successful in Africa.

Guillaume Bouculat, Finance Director of Livelihoods, was invited to speak at a workshop on ‘Climate‐smart agriculture: agro‐forestry and agriculture soils ‐ Unblocking the potential through smart financing’, along with other forest carbon specialists. His speech underlined the serious difficulties of agro-forest and soil carbon projects to secure upfront financing and presented the way in which the Livelihoods Fund overcomes this issue. It was also confirmed that the Livelihoods Fund intends to invest a significant share of its funds in African projects, on top of the two projects already implemented in Senegal and DRC.
