What is regenerative agriculture for Livelihoods?

 Regenerative agriculture focuses on rebuilding soil health, enhancing fertility, and restoring ecosystems through practices such as permanent cover crops, diversified crop rotations, and reduced tillage. This sustainable approach reduces soil disturbance, encourages biodiversity, and creates more resilient and productive agricultural ecosystems. Regenerative agriculture requires time, commitment, and support as farmers work alongside experts to design systems tailored to their land.

At Livelihoods, we have pioneered solutions since 2015 with businesses frontrunning sustainable sourcing, either at pre-competitive level (within coalitions) or at brand level (via tailor made projects). These solutions put emphasis on soil health before the Regenerative Agriculture expression was coined. They were co-developed with farmers, the actors of the transformation to optimize the financial viability of their farms and ensure a legacy of the project after Livelihoods & partners’ support terminate.

We Co-Design the project’s activities. Together with farmer groups, NGOs, data partners and supply chain actors we co-design the financial and technical models to achieve a holistic transformer over 5 to 10 years.

Field project implementation: we fine-tune best practices with pioneer farmers & deploy the project activities at scale from training of trainers, resourcing & tools, farmer groups & SME set-up, access to finance & services…
